History/Origin Named after a Steamship of 150 tons which accompanied the Moonta in Surveyor General Goyder's expedition to Port Darwin in 1869. It was formerly a slaver in the Carribbean. In 1870 it took the first Government Resident, Bloomfield Douglas, to Port Darwin as well as acting as a supply ship after Goyder's arrival. Samuel Sweet was Captain and Henry R Marsh (c1818-c1910), later Captain of Flying Cloud, was mate.
