| History/Origin | Hicks Road is named in commemoration of Lieutenant William Hicks RN, master of the brig Mary Elizabeth, which provisioned Fort Dundas during the early years of the British settlement established there in 1824. Hicks married Sophia Hickey at St Philip's Church, Sydney, in 1823. His wife, Sophia ('Sophie') Hicks, who died at Fort Dundas in 1827, is separately commemorated in the naming of nearby Sophia Road. |
