History/Origin The Goyder River is believed to have been named by Capt Cadell, during his exploration of the north coast in the "Firefly" in 1868, after G W Goyder, Surveyor General SA.

Lindsay named the upper reaches of the Goyder River in 1883 (Expl. 11) Glyde Inlet.
