History/Origin Vesteys Beach, located in Darwin's Fannie Bay, was officially renamed Bundilla Beach in 2021 to honour the Larrakia people, the traditional custodians of the land. The name Bundilla means 'young girl' in the Larrakia language, reflecting the cultural significance of the area to the local Aboriginal community.

The previous name, Vesteys Beach, was derived from the nearby Vestey's Meatworks, a slaughterhouse established by the British company Vestey Brothers between 1914 and 1917. The meatworks operated for only three years before being abandoned. The beach was informally known as 'Vesteys' due to its proximity to the meatworks and appeared on maps as early as 1917.
