History/Origin This locality derives its name from Girraween Lagoon, a name given to a lagoon in Section 254, Hundred of Bagot, when in 1967 it was found to have been incorrectly shown as McMinn's Lagoon. The name "Girraween" is of Aboriginal origin and is derived from Australian Legendary Tales as meaning "the place of flowers". The locality is generally based on the Girraween Subdivision being developed by the Churcher Estate.
