History/Origin The suburb is named after RAAF Base Tindal, a nearby Royal Australian Air Force base established in 1942 during the Second World War. The base was renamed Tindal Airfield in 1946 to commemorate Wing Commander Archibald Robert Tindal (1916-1942), a RAAF officer who was killed during the first Japanese air raid on Darwin on 19 February 1942.
