History/Origin The Ti-Tree locality takes its name from the Town of the same name which in turn derives its name from 'Well' on the banks of the Woodforde Creek, named "Tea Tree Well" during the construction of the Overland Telegraph Line.

It was believed to have been so named as the well was amongst ""tea tree"" bushes in the creek.

In the 1920s with pastoral expansion north of Alice Springs, William Heffernan founded Ti Tree Station, some miles west of the well, and eventually a store was set up by Lily Hese at Tea Tree Well.
In early 1980 the community requested, by petition to Legislative Assembly, that the spelling of the town name be changed from "Tea Tree" to "Ti-Tree". The town being officially named "Ti-Tree" in April 1983.
