History/Origin Beswick as an administrative area is based on and takes its name from the Aboriginal community of Beswick which was established in the 1940s on the banks of Beswick Creek, encountered by Explorer David Lindsay in 1883 during his exploration of Arnhem Land. The creek is believed to be named after a South Australian pastoralist.
