History/Origin Driver Secondary School, located in the suburb of Driver, has undergone several name changes throughout its history. It originally opened in 1986 as Driver High School, became Palmerston High School in 1998, was renamed Palmerston Senior College in 2012, and then Palmerston College in 2018, following its amalgamation with Rosebery Middle School.

The school takes its name from the suburb, which is named after Arthur Robert Driver (1909-1981), who served as Territory Administrator from 1946 to 1951 and was the first President of the Northern Territory Legislative Council.
