Yorky Billy accompanied his father as a fettler on the railways and droving in the VRD. They later returned to the Kakadu area and lived by prospecting, crocodile shooting and working for buffalo hunters.

Yorky Billy subsequently married Minnie, an Aboriginal woman from the Maningrida area. The couple had six children, Mick, Jessie, Violet, Elizabeth, Kenneth and Nellie. Mike was Chairman of the Kakadu Board of Management prior to his death.
