History/Origin Named after David (Dave) Roy Baldock (1913-2000) Central Australian transport operator. Baldock arrived in Tennant Creek from South Australia in 1934 looking for work. After driving trucks for others for a number of years around Central Australia, in 1937 he purchased his own truck and started an Alice Springs to Tennant Creek service following the Overland Telegraph Line, there being no formed road.

As the road between the towns improved, he introduced the first semi-trailer and following the war he purchased surplus military equipment and was the first individual to operate road trains with up to four trailers, carting general freight north to Tennant Creek and returning with copper from the mines back to the Alice Springs railhead.

He was a foundation member of the Territory Transport Association and a shareholder in Co-Ord, the Associations business arm.

In 1955, Baldock left the Territory to have treatment on his back, the result of his early working life in transport. Although he never returned he kept an interest in the business until 1966 when it was sold.

Whilst living in Alice Springs, Dave Baldock took an active interest in various sports, particular football, shooting and horse racing.
