History/Origin MITAROS PLACE is named in commemoration of Archileas (Arch) Mitaros (1929-2007) businessman, and Michael (Hully) Mitaros (1964-2004) accountant.

Arch Mitaros married Marion Canaris, formerly of Darwin, in 1954 in Brisbane and together they moved to Darwin in September 1963. Arch initially managed the Fortiades Delicatessen, next to the Star Theatre, Smith Street, Darwin, for a year.

Arch then worked at the Fannie Bay Bakery, up until Cyclone Tracy. Following Cyclone Tracy, Arch remained in Darwin to help with the cleanup and rebuilding whilst his family were evacuated to Perth.

Arch was active member of the Greek Orthodox Community and was instrumental in obtaining the former Carpentaria College for the community which was to become the Nightcliff Greek School
Arch, although retired for 10 years prior to his death was a director of Jalouise Pty Ltd which developed and/or owned numerous Darwin City buildings.

Arch Mitaros died in July 2007, in Perth, whilst on transit to Greece.

Michael Mitaros was born in Darwin in 1964 and attended Parap Primary School, up until Cyclone Tracy when he was evacuated with his mother and siblings to Perth.

Upon completion of Year 12, Michael returned to Darwin and studied Accountancy at the Darwin Community College. He went on to work for various businesses in Darwin.

Michael was active member of the Greek Glenti Committee and a board member of Carpentaria Community Services.

Michael Mitaros died in November 2004, whilst working in Melbourne.

Both Arch and Michael Mitaros are buried at the Darwin General Cemetery.
