History/Origin After HMAS Stalwart (II), a Destroyer Tender of 15,500 tonnes, commissioned on 9 February 1968.

On 26 December 1974, the day after Darwin was devastated by Cyclone Tracy, Stalwart's ships company were recalled from Christmas leave and she sailed from Sydney on 27 December carrying vital supplies to assist in what became known as Operation NAVY HELP DARWIN. Arriving in Darwin on 2 January 1975, her crew were immediately involved with clearing and salvage operations.

She remained in Darwin until 30 January 1975 when shore cleanup was handed over to the 5/7 RAR. The Stalwart returned to Sydney.
