History/Origin Fowlestone Road is named in commemoration of George Eric Fowlestone (1906-1978) who came to Australia in 1923, aged 16, under the Barwell Scheme, being allocated to a family in the Clare Valley, SA. In 1939 he joined the RAAF in Laverton, Victoria and was a Sergeant at the 1 Wireless and Gunnery School, Ballarat, when discharged in February 1945. George married Iris Gould in 1941.

George, Iris and three children arrived in Darwin in 1946 and lived in a Sidney Williams hut at the old hospital, Nightcliff Camp, until 1953, when they moved to nearby Aralia St, Nightcliff. George on arrival in Darwin went into business with his brother-in-law as a plumbing contractor, a trade he had learnt whilst in the RAAF. He was known to not charge pensioners for his work. He continued working until his retirement in the early 1970s, when he purchased a block at Bees Creek. Unfortunately he became seriously ill to develop the property and died in 1978.

George was an early member of the Nightcliff Progress Association, the Worker Club and the Rifle Club where he won the Queens Prize.
