History/Origin Named after Father Gerard (Gerry) Remie, the founding Parish Priest of Our Lady Help of Christians parish in Palmerston. He was there for 14 years, building the parish complex from the ground up (church, school and presbytery) by appealing for donations from people locally, nationally and overseas. He was beloved within the Parish and reached out to anyone disadvantaged socially or financially.

He passed away in 1999.
