History/Origin Named after Panayiotis (Peter) Kyriacou Syrimi and Maria Syrimi, who were born in Cyprus in 1922.

Peter served with the British army in WWII and spent four years as a POW in the German Stalag 4F. He migrated to Darwin Australia in 1948, leaving his wife Maria and two children behind. He worked three jobs for 18 months saving to bring his family to Darwin.

Peter and Maria contributed to post war Darwin, establishing a poultry farm and market gardens. They also raised 11 children during this time. Peter often held down several jobs at once, whilst also running their businesses.

The family returned to Darwin in 1958, after attempting to resettle in Sydney. They again established a new market garden and poultry business. The poultry business expanded and at one stage supplied 10,000 birds a week to the local market. The farm was severely damaged during Cyclone Tracy and what remained was demolished by the Federal Government during clean up efforts. The family went on to rebuild the poultry farm at Howard Springs and diversified into bananas. On Peter's retirement, a number of the children continued in the family business.

Peter died in May 2001 and Maria died in August 2004, both are buried at Darwin General Cemetery.

In 2011, due to the realignment of the Tivendale Road and Wishart Road intersection, Tivendale Road was revoked and renamed. The southern section of Tivendale Road was renamed Syrimi Road.
