History/Origin Named in commemoration of George Frederick Parkinson who enlisted in the RAAF, and was a Corporal with the 6 Communications Unit when he discharged in 1946.

While driving a cab for Co-Op Taxis he and his family lived in a house on Hudson Fysh Avenue. He was a member of the RSL. In a Memoriam notice in the NT News George was described as 'a phenomenal man of the earth, stockman, ploughman, timberman, tin miner, Co-Op Taxi 36, crocodile hunter, RAAF, RSL, adventurer and frontiersman'.

He passed away in May 1997 at the age of 85. George's funeral service was held in the then Darwin Botanical Gardens. It was requested that instead of flowers, donations be given to the RSL.
