| History/Origin | Named after Aubrey McPherson, who was an Electrical Technician with the Department of Civil Aviation and then transferred to the Post Master Generals Department (P.M.G) which later became Telecom/Telstra. Aubrey was a founding member and went on to become a life member for the NT Rugby Football League, was President for the Waratahs Football Club for two years and also a member of the Postal Institute Rugby Club. In 2008 Aubrey was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his association with the Rubgy League Clubs in Darwin. Aubrey was responsible for buildingthe present Gardens Oval which was previously an Army Rubbish dump. Aubrey worked as a sports writer for the NT news for eighteen years from 1950-1968. |
