| History/Origin |
Named after Joseph (Joe) Stanley Russell, who was Head Stockman on Roper Valley Station at the age of 14. Joe later joined the Lands Department of the Public Service as a Chainman. He was known as a great story teller, sharing stories of his days when he was a stockman and a surveyor. In 1984, Joe was honoured with an Order of Australia Medal for Public Services. Joe passed away in January 2008. |
