| History/Origin | Named after Mr David Douglas Smith, the member for Stuart in the Legislative Council for the Northern Territory for the period between November 1962 and November 1965. Mr Smith first came to the Territory in 1926 for work in relation to the proposed railway line from Daly Waters to Dajarra in Queensland. He went to live in Alice Springs in 1928 and was the resident Engineer there for the Commonwealth Department of Works throughout the period of World War II and up until the 1950's. |
