| History/Origin |
Named after James (Jim) Alan Dorling who, following his matriculation, joined the Commonwealth Public Service as a cadet patrol officer with the Northern Territory Administration (in both the Top End and Central Australia). Jim undertook studies towards a law degree at the Australian National University and, following graduation, returned to Darwin to work for the Department of Law. He was subsequently appointed as Parliamentary Counsel and remained in that role until his retirement from the public sector. Jim was responsible for the drafting of much of the legislation which now forms the basis for the conduct of government business in self-governing the Territory. |
