History/Origin Named after Trevor James Milikins who started his life in the Northern Territory after purchasing a one way ticket to Alice Springs, where he got a job in the then Department of Works as a Purchasing Officer. After two years, Trevor left the Department of Works, moving to Darwin and starting a new job at Native Affairs. It was in Darwin that he met his future wife, Annette Whelehan. In the early 1960s, Trevor was part of a group who travelled to West Arnhem to establish the community of Maningrida. Trevor spent a year in Maningrida, where he learnt to speak the language (Burera) and helped to build the community, as well as working with leprosy patients. Over the next few years, Trevor continued to patrol in Arnhem Land, usually for ten weeks at a time. His work included updating census records, ensuring that people were getting their appropriate entitlements and assisting the Department of Health to find those requiring medical treatment. Trevor passed away in 1991.
