History/Origin Formerly part of the Berrimah Agricultural Research Centre (Berrimah Farm), road names in this area generally recognise former workers, research activities, particularly in cattle breeding, or significant historical persons associated with the area.

Reuben John Cooper (1898-1942) was a buffalo shooter and timber worker associated with Darwin, Berrimah, and the Cobourg Peninsula. He was the recorded co-owner of Section 45 of Berrimah Farm.

Born on 6 February 1898 near Pine Creek, he was the son of Robert Joel (Joe) Cooper, a buffalo shooter and sawmiller active in the Northern Territory, and Alice Rose Mara-Oldain Cooper, an Aboriginal woman from the Cobourg Peninsula associated with the Iwaidja people. He was educated at St Peter's College, Adelaide, and later worked in the Northern Territory's buffalo and timber industries, including involvement in a cypress pine milling enterprise in the Cobourg Peninsula region.

Cooper was also a prominent sportsman and an early contributor to Australian Rules football in Darwin. He played with clubs including Vestey's, Waratahs, and Buffaloes, and was recognised for both his athletic ability and his role in developing the game locally.

He died at Oenpelli on 25 September 1942.
