History/Origin Named after Jas Aldridge, who was a Cadet Surveyor with Surveyor-General Goyder when Palmerston (now Darwin) was being surveyed in 1869, and was assisting Mr R P Knuckey on the Overland Telegraph (OT) Line. He travelled extensively during the construction of the line and was notably connected with the establishment of the Alice Springs section of the OT Line.
