| History/Origin |
Named after a species of bird. There are several species of migratory curlews in Northern Australia which usually inhabit beaches and mud or sand flats, as well as the inland curlew common to all Australia. The migratory species breed in eastern Siberia, arriving in Australia in late September and depart in March. |
