History/Origin Named after the best known and largest eagle in Australia - the wedge tailed eagle. This bird of prey is often seen gliding effortlessly high over inland Australia waiting to swoop on rabbits, small marsupials and the occasional lamb. Other eagles in the Northern Territory are the 'White headed sea eagle', 'Whistling Eagle' and the 'Little Eagle'.
