History/Origin Named after Mathew and William Garr who came to Darwin with their parents. They lived at "Carls" beach , now known as Dinah Beach. Mathew was 25 and William 22 when they enlisted. Mathew was killed in action in Belgium on 29 September, 1917 and William was killed in action in France on 30th November, 1916. Their father was a Filipino living on Thursday Islander.
