| History/Origin |
Named after the Kingfisher. There are several varieties of kingfisher in the Northern Territory, the largest of which is the Kookaburra. Several smaller varieties are found throughout the Territory, the Red Backed Kingfisher being common in the dry centre with several other species common in the wetter top end. |
