History/Origin Named after the "Peacock Flower", a small tree with prickles on the trunk and leaves, having a large flower which can be a variety of colours ranging from orange-red, scarlet, rose, pink, to yellow. The name pavonian or pavonine is latin, meaning "Pertaining to a peacock".
