| History/Origin |
Named after the ROLYAT school run by the Taylor sisters in Melbourne in the early 1900s. Jeannie Taylor, who married Aeneas Gunn in 1902, was one of the sisters. She later wrote "We of the Never Never" about her pioneering life on Elsey Station. Rolyat, which is Taylor spelt backwards, was also applied to a NT Pastoral Lease in the Hodgson Downs area in the 1900s. |
