History/Origin Named after Flying Officer P Laney who was aboard a Catalina Aircraft which crashed in the vicinity in January 1945. When the road was named it was believed the Flying Officer's name was Vaney. Subsequent investigation has revealed his name to be Laney.

Note: this road was never constructed and the spelling was incorrect so the road name was revoked in 2013.
