History/Origin |
Named after the Webb Family, pioneer pastoralists of Central Australia. Benjamin Mark Webb, born in 1867, first came to the Territory and mined gold at Arltunga around 1900. He was later a teamster and carted stores from Alice Springs and wood to the battery at Arltunga. In 1920, in partnership with J L Schaber, they took up a pastoral property east of Alice Springs known as Ramberana. Webb who died in 1938 and is buried in the Mt Riddock Station Cemetery, had three sons, Quinton, Kilmot and Bennett who held Mt Riddock, Alcoota and Huckitta Stations. Quinton died in 1978 and Bennett in 1985. Kilmot Webb currently holds Alcoota. |
