Description

Abstract:

This dataset contains water quality data relating to groundwater bores within the Northern Territory. These data are sampled at intervals ranging from a few minutes, hourly, daily or infrequently at irregular intervals. Monitoring sites may be currently active or historic and have been commissioned for a variety of purposes and monitoring programs.

Data Quality

Lineage:Collection of independent water quality data collection efforts. The current water quality database is Aquarius Samples which replaced the Water Resources Hydstra database in 2021.

Positional Accuracy:Before 1995 - site locations were collected using the property boundary, NT cadastre and/or 1:250,000 topographic maps. Site data is manually recorded using log book or site sheets. Data was manually entered into databases. The positional accuracy of sites is deemed low with a standard deviation of +/- 300 to 10,000 metres. A poor positional accuracy resulted from inconsistencies with the collection/storage of positional data and original mapping formats. The positional accuracy of some sites is being upgraded from poor to high with the use of GPS. From 1995 - site locations were collected using GPS,1:25,000 and 1:50,000 topographic maps. Site data is manually recorded using log book or site sheets and digital logger devices. Depending on the method of capture the information is either manually or electronically down-loaded directly into water databases. The positional accuracy of sites is deemed high with a standard deviation of +/-3 to 10 metres with the use of GPS.

Attribute Accuracy:Raw data > 95 percent accuracy Transcription accuracy > 95 percent Temporal accuracy > 95 percent

Logical Consistency:Not evaluated

Completeness:Dataset is subject to review, maintenance and update at irregular intervals. Historical data may be added as digitisation efforts continue.

Flag fieldsFields containing an analyte name followed by "Flag" e.g. "Hardness Flag" may contain symbols such as less than or greater than. For example, "<" in the "Fe Total Flag" field and "0.1" in the "Fe Total" field indicates the measured iron level was below the lab's limit of reporting and is reported as <0.1 mg/l.
