Title: Northern Territory Geological Survey - Geochemistry - All Rocks
Citation Date:2025-02-11

Description
Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) geochemical datasets contain information on open file geochemical data for samples collected by companies and NTGS where the Sample Method may be described as a rockchip of an outcrop, or an undifferentiated rock sampled from surface. The data is captured by the NTGS via statutory reporting from exploration companies or NTGS projects. The geochemical dataset consists of major elemental oxides, trace and rare earth element abundances where available. Analyses are included in the dataset on a 'Best Assay' basis (per sample, regardless of analytical method) and to common units. No repeat analyses are included in the dataset unless analysed with a different SampleID.

Data Quality
Lineage:Sample and assay data are captured from both open file company exploration reports and NTGS projects. Exploration data is extracted from legacy hardcopy reports by scanning and digitizing, including spatial data capture from maps where necessary.
Legacy data capture from company reports is ongoing within NTGS. More recent exploration reports and data have been supplied in digital formats and are uploaded directly into a SQL Server database after transcription to a standard loading template. NTGS collected rock samples are primarily whole rock geochemical analyses.
NTGS undertake QA/QC on NTGS collected samples involving assessing precision and accuracy of techniques through internationally recognised standard reference materials and NTGS in-house standards, including the identification of duplicates and blanks. All data is transferred into a SQL Server database. Data is validated twice: at the template stage (before entry); and on loading into the database.
Positional Accuracy:Approximately 20-200m metres using 100k topographical maps or 1-10m using GPS.
Attribute Accuracy:Analyses have been performed by laboratories to set standards. Geological observations and descriptive attributes noted by Geological Survey geologists.
Logical Consistency:Data is logically consistent for the purposes of geological interpretation. No levelling between analytical methods has been applied to the dataset.
Completeness:Data is as complete as possible for each record. Due to the flat file nature of the STRIKE layers the laboratory method information is not included for each assay and the original source of the data should be checked.
Laboratory metadata is now included with full 'raw' (as-reported) geochemical analyses in the Northern Territory Geochemistry Datasets, Digital Information Package 1 (DIP001) https://geoscience.nt.gov.au/gemis/ntgsjspui/handle/1/94622 on a report basis for all rock sample types. Company reports can be searched and downloaded via GEMIS https://geoscience.nt.gov.au/gemis
Datasets in .shp, .tab, and .csv formats are available for download in STRIKE https://strike.nt.gov.au/ via Downloads > NT Wide Datasets > Geochemistry.
