Description

Abstract:

This survey and spatial dataset describes vegetation communities for the Casuarina Coastal Reserve in the city of Darwin, Nothern Territory and covers an area of 6km2. The mapped information was surveyed at a scale of 1:5,000 and describes vegetation units and their attributes and provides a basis for identifying the extent and distribution of vegetation resources. (Vegetation Unit - A reasonably homogeneous part of the land surface, distinct from surrounding terrain with constant properties in landform and vegetation)

Data Quality

Lineage:Original linework/vegetation patterns delineated using 1:5,000 colour aerial photography to delineate mapping unit boundaries and site selection, then extensively ground-truthed with topographic basemap/GPS coordinated field survey and site data collection. Resultant verified linework georeferanced to GPS ground control points and 1:25,000 topographic basemap then input into GIS system as ArcInfo vector information and built as a polygon cover. Recompiled and updated to GDA94 as part of ongoing GIS Progarm 2004.
Source data
Aerial photography - 1:5,000 Col
Base map - Lands/Survey Branch NT 1:25,000 film/base from 1:100,000 ATSS AGD66
- Australian Topographic Survey Series 1:100,000 AGD66
- Northern Territory Cadastre AGD66
GIS - ArcInfo vector as AGD66 / GDA94

Positional Accuracy:Linework digitised and georeferenced using GPS ground control points. Registration/location information has been derived from topographic base map, NT cadastre and GPS based field survey. The summation of errors from all sources results in data with a standard deviation defined by scale used as +/-10m for well-defined points.

Attribute Accuracy:The accuracy of the attribute information conforms to the 'Australian Soil and Land Survey Field Handbook' at time of capture.

Logical Consistency:Dataset topological consistency has been system checked and all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at the intersection of lines and there is only one label within each polygon.

Completeness:Complete.
