Description

Abstract:

This land resource survey (1:250,000 scale dataset) broadly describes landform, soils and vegetation/pasture types covering the Tobermorey and Hay River 1:250,000 mapsheets. Mapped information describes associated patterns/land systems over an area of 34,000 km2. Information is usually interpreted to indicate land capability for a range of land uses and provides a basis for identifying the extent and distrbution of land resources for the Tobermorey and Hay River 1:250,000 mapsheet area.

Data Quality

Lineage:Original linework derived using orthophoto maps to delinate land system boundaries and site selection, then extensively ground truthed with topographic basemap coordinated field survey and site data collection. Verified linework transferred photogrammetrically over 1:250,000 film/basemaps. Resultant linework scanned/digitised into GIS system as ArcInfo vector information then built as a polygon cover. Recompiled and updated to GDA94 as part of ongoing GIS Progarm 2004.
Source data
Aerial photography - 1:100,000 orthophoto maps
Base map - Australian Topographic Survey Series 1:250,000 AGD66
- Northern Territory Cadastre AGD66
GIS - ArcInfo vector as GDA94

Positional Accuracy:Good - Derived from topographic basemap and NT cadastre. The summation of errors from all sources results in data with a standard deviation defined by scale used as +/-500m for well-defined points.

Attribute Accuracy:High - The accuracy of the attribute information is considered high and conforms to the 'Australian Soil and Land Survey Field Handbook' at time of capture.

Logical Consistency:Good - Dataset topological consistency has been system checked and all classified polygons are closed, nodes are formed at the intersection of lines and there is only one label within each polygon.

Completeness:Complete
All polygons have value added attributes using the department's spatial data conventions.
