Data Quality

Lineage:The Groundwater units boundaries and Springs were derived from geology maps, topographic maps, aerial photographs and stereoscope interpretation and satellite imagery interpretation.
The hydrology information from standing water level measurements flows from springs, chemical analyses of groundwater samples and surveys of outcrops of recharge beds.

Processing steps:
Groundwater units: The Groundwater units boundaries were captured using Microstation V7 software package. The polygons from Microstation design format was converted to ESRI Shapefile and ESRI Geodatabase. The MapInfo Table dataset was then created from the shape file using FME Universal Translator.

The core attributes information associated with the groundwater dataset was derived from the original map's legend and annotations. File name MATARANKA_SPRINGS.dgn.

Positional Accuracy:Positional accuracy of 50 metres from well defined points.

Attribute Accuracy:Attributes assigned according to the dominant feature. For example, several similar geological units have been grouped to describe a particular geology. Several bore sites describing yield or chemistry information have been grouped to describe a particular hydrology. From the geology and hydrology information the hydrogeology units was delineated.

Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Following polygon data topology rules of must not overlap, must not have gaps and that each polygon has only one label; checks were performed to detect flaws in the spatial data structure.

Completeness:Complete.
