Title: Groundwater in the Western Davenport Water Control District, Northern Territory

Citation Date:2013-11-01

Date Type:creation

Custodian:Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security

Description

Abstract:

This spatial dataset, surveyed at a scale of 1:500,000, provides polygon information on the aquifer extent, aquifer types, groundwater quality and generalised bore yields in the various aquifers present. Additional information on groundwater levels is included. The purpose of this survey was to provide an overview of the groundwater resources for planning and management

Data Quality

Lineage:The aquifer map boundaries were derived from 1:250,000 scale geological maps and modified using borehole data and regional geophysical surveys. The water level information was obtained from standing water level measurements taken over a wide range of times.
The map unit boundaries polygon collected via geographic Information system (ArcGIS). Core water resources attributes attached to map units boundary with additional attributes unique to individual surveys. The ESRI Geodatabase, MapInfo Table and Google Earth KML derived using FME Workbench. The published map is derived from the ESRI Shape using Microstation Bentley MicroStation Design (V8) software.
The core attributes information associated with the groundwater, surface water and water development dataset was derived from the original map's legend and annotations. File name West-Davenport-WCD_Groundwater_500k.pdf

Positional Accuracy:Positional accuracy of 500 metres from geological base information.

Attribute Accuracy:Aquifer boundaries derived mainly from surface geology with minor modifications based on available widely spaced borehole data

Logical Consistency:GIS editing tools were used to rectify all overshoots and undershoots in line work. Polygon topology rules applied are must not overlap, must not have gaps and each polygon has only one label.

Completeness:Complete
