Description
Boundaries of historical (ceased) titles that were granted for mineral and extractive mineral exploration and mining. Titles since 2011 were granted under the Northern Territory Mineral Titles Act. Previously Mineral Titles were granted under the NT Mining Act/s and Mining Ordinances. Title polygons represent the boundaries on the date the mineral title was initially granted (Transaction type = Grant) or the boundaries on the date the title ceased (Transaction type = Ceased).

Data Quality
Lineage:Boundaries of titles prior to 1999 were digitised from paper tenement maps to create a spatial index for exploration reports. Scales ranged from 1:50K to 1:250K. Boundaries of titles since 1999 are extracted from the digital Titles Administration Mapping System (MapInfo) which replaced the paper tenement maps in 2000. Titles are continually added as they expire or cease.
Positional Accuracy:Variable depending on data source and mapping date. Mineral exploration licences are granted in one minute graticular blocks. Mining tenements are plotted from descriptions supplied by tenement holders.
Attribute Accuracy:Attributes are extracted from the Titles Administration System (TAS). Data is entered manually and inconsistencies exist.
Logical Consistency:Topology not checked.
Completeness:Completeness of the dataset varies depending on title age and reporting history. Titles prior to 1999 may be missing if exploration reports are not held by Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS).
