| History/Origin |
In 1705 Maarten van Delft named this strait "Vossenbosch Baii" after his vessel the Vossenbosch, but as the Dutch names have not been available on charts until recent years, it is not surprising that on 16 April 1818, Capt. P P King named the Strait after his friend James Bowen Esq, who was appointed a Commissioner of the Navy in 1816. |
