History/Origin Named by Captain PP King on 11 May 1818, after Rear Admiral Sir Henry Hotham, KCB.

Although no mention is made of the naming in the King's published journal "Survey of the Intertropical Coasts of Australia" of 1827, the name is mentioned in his journal.
