History/Origin | These hills to the south of Mount Leisler were named by W H Tietkens on 27 May 1889, after Sir Samuel Davenport (1818-1906), the President of the Royal Geographical Society (SA). Davenport had between 1846 and 1866 a member of the South Australian Legislative Council and held the office of Commissioner of Public Works in 1857. |
