History/Origin The name Hooker Creek appears on the North Australian Expedition plan of 1856, but is not mentioned in Gregory's report of the expedition.

Believed to be named by A.C.Gregory after Sir William Jackson Hooker, Director of Kew Gardens in 1841.
Baines, a member of Gregory's party was in communication with Hooker prior to the expedition.
