| History/Origin | The Koolatong River is mentioned by Murphy in diary on 11 June 1911. Murphy wrote ".. and what we took to be the Kolatong River, previously discovered by Stewart Love last year.... .. became evident to us that it was not the Koolatong, but that we were again crossing the Matta Murta, which we have been running down all morning,.. .. and its junctions with the Koolatong about one mile down stream from here. .. then crossed the Koolatong River at the spot where Stewart Love crossed it.... .... The Koolatong where we crossed it on some hardflat slates, forming a bar, is about the size of the Katherine River in the vicinity of the township, and its high banks much resemble the same." |
