History/Origin | The origin of the name Maranboy is believed to be aboriginal. The first mention of the name "Maranboy" is in a report to the Mines Branch in 1913 which refers to:- The discovery of tin at Maranboy Springs near the head of Beswick Creek, 40 miles east of the Katherine Telegraph Station... All features associated with the Mananboy name have derived their names from the springs feature mentioned in the report of 1913. Surveyors Mott (1914) and Lindsay (1917) on their plans spelt the name "Marranboy", whilst the official reports of the time utilise the Maranboy spelling. The "Maranboy Gold Field" was official gazetted on 24 September 1914. |
