History/Origin Mount Daniel was named by John McDouall Stuart on 3 April 1860 during his 4 attempt to cross the Australian continent from south to north.

Stuart named the mount after Daniel Kekwick, Esq. of Adelaide, South Australia.

William Darton Kekwick, the son of Daniel Kekwick, was Stuart's second in command during his next expedition.
