History/Origin Ernest Giles mentions a high bluff in his diary of explorations on 18 September, 1872 after Baron Justus Von Liebig, from whose great chemical researches Australia so much benefited." (Giles' Geograhical Explorations in Central Australia 1872-74, (pg 26)).

It is believed that W.C. Gosse named the mount.
