History/Origin Lake Bennett is named for the lake of the same name, a waterbody developed by George and Ken Bennett in the early 1970s on land held under a pastoral lease. The lake, created by enlarging an existing natural waterhole, was already established and publicly recognised as a recreational destination by the late 1970s, appearing in government reports and contemporary newspaper coverage.

The locality name reflects the long standing and widespread use of "Lake Bennett" in mapping, tourism material, and land administration systems, and corresponds to the rural residential community and development surrounding the lake.
