History/Origin This Hundred is situated south of the Darwin Harbour and is within the County of Palmerston. It is one of 13 Hundreds first Gazetted in 1871 and was named after John Bristow Hughes, a South Australian landowner, who stood for the Assembly in 1857, representing Port Adelaide. He was Treasurer and supporter of R.R Torrens.
