| History/Origin | On 19 November 2001, the Hon Kon Vatskalis, Minister for lands and Planning approved, on the recommendation of the Place Names Committee, the naming of Palmerston suburbs including PINELANDS. (Gazette NTG48 of 5 December 2001) Pinelands is so named because prior to the development of the industrial estate in 1978, the area was a pine forest. The industrial estate was marketed under the name Pinelands. The area had previously been known unofficially as 13 Mile, Berrimah or Pinelands. |
